Thanks for that recommendation Steve. I’m surprised McCarthy cares about Hollywood’s money. Isn’t he a virtual recluse with a very simple lifestyle?

McCarthy is a poet. His earlier works, those written before he discovered how much money there was in Hollywood, are picaresque masterpieces. If you have the stomach for it, try BLOOD MERIDIAN. It is wrenching, but if you read it as you would view Hieronymus Bosch’s “The Garden of Earthly Delights,” seeing the hideous as poetical visions, there are few books more rewarding.
